Why volume is created at the root during drying and cannot be added convincingly afterwards.

Volume is a root angle. When hair dries, the strand sets in whatever direction it was held while the last of the water left it. That set is the shape you have for the day; product applied afterwards can support it, but it cannot create it.

This is the single most useful idea in men''s styling, and it explains why two men using identical product get completely different results.
