I have the hair a huge number of Asian men have: thick, straight, black, dense. It grows out and down. It sticks out on the sides after a haircut. And no matter how good it looks at 7 AM, by lunch it has collapsed flat against my head.

I spent years cycling through the whole aisle. Wax made my hair heavier, so it fell faster. Pomade looked great for two hours, then turned into a grease slick. Gel held — as a crunchy shell that cracked if I touched it. The generic sea salt sprays on the shelf never gave my dense, straight hair enough grip or preparation to build the style I wanted; my hair doesn't do "beachy." That frustration is exactly what defined what NoonProof's PREP step had to do differently. Blow dryer routines worked, sort of, if I spent 15 minutes every morning and never went outside in wind.
